Metadata editing¶
Batch-edit metadata¶
To make data entry even easier, you can enter several records at the same time. For example, if 5 layers have the same history, all you have to do is select them and enter the history for all 5 once. This feature is available for a number of tabs.
The procedure is as follows:
- In the inventory, simply click to select the metadata records to be documented
- Click on the "Edit" button,
- Fill in the required fields and click on "Save".
Tip
Be sure to check your selection before starting batch editing (see details below).
Batch-editable fields¶
All fields are batch-editable, with the exception of :
- location ;
- the data creation date ;
- attributes.
Operation and details¶
-
batch editing does not display information already entered in the selected files. This is why the geography tab always displays an empty map, even if the convex envelopes (rights-of-way) already exist in the selected files.
-
batch editing overwrites existing values for single fields and adds the specified values for multiple fields. For example, if you specify an abstract and an associated resource, it will overwrite any previously entered abstracts but add the associated resource to the previous ones.
-
batch editing will only apply to modified fields. For example, if you only add the summary, the other fields will be left as they are.
-
if a record in the selection does not belong to you, you will not be able to perform batch editing. Remember to filter by workgroup.
-
if several resource types are represented in the selection (e.g. vector data with services), the fields available for batch editing will be limited to the lowest common denominator.
Overall, the operation of batch publishing can be summarized in the following table:
Field type | Example | Unit edition | Batch editing |
---|---|---|---|
Textual | Title | Display text already entered. | Overwrite text on all cards (even if text has already been entered). |
Digital | Scale | Displays the number already entered. | Overwrite number on all cards (even if a number has already been entered). |
Date | Date | Display date already entered. | Overwrite date on all cards (even if a date has already been entered). |
Associative | Contact | Displays a list of sub-resources already associated. | Add the sub-resource to all records, even if it is already associated. |
Label | Keyword | Display of labels already assigned. | Displays labels already assigned to all cards (✔), labels assigned to at least one card in the selection (-) and unassigned labels (☐). Checking adds the label to all cards, unchecking removes the label from all cards. |
Single-unit publishing¶
Step by step¶
- Open data sheet ;
- Click on the
Modify
button; -
Enter the information requested in the various tabs:
- Add a title (e.g.: voluntary drop-off points installed in Bordeaux in 2012) ;
- Add a summary (e.g.: this data represents the location of voluntary household waste collection points in the city of Bordeaux in 2012);
- Describe the context and collection method (e.g.: this data was created by the city's municipal services as part of their household waste management mission. This data also serves as a communication tool for sorting users);
- Enter the data creation date (e.g.: 12/15/2012) ;
- Enter the General Terms of Use (GTU) by referring directly to a license or an exchange agreement;
- Add links to services and resources associated with the data by entering its URL (e.g. webmapping, download service, map library, photo, video, etc.)
Delete metadata¶
Metadata can be deleted at 2 levels:
- your inventory;
- in the Scan FME database. If you scan the data again, you will have to enter the metadata again.
The behavior is identical whether the deletion is a single operation or a batch.
Batch metadata deletion¶
To delete multiple metadata in a batch :
- Select the metadata to be deleted ;
- Isolate the selection by clicking on the selection button where the number of selected metadata is indicated;
- Click on the button.
Delete a metadata¶
To delete a specific record :
- Open the file in the browser ;
- Click on the trash can icon at top right
; - Confirm deletion.
