Geography" tab¶
The "Geography" tab shows the extent of the data on a map and indicates the data format, number of entities, geometry type, coordinate system, extent coordinates, scale and resolution of the data;
Card ¶
Definition | Extent of the resource in geographic space, expressed as a boundary polygon |
---|---|
Indications | The right-of-way must encompass all the objects contained in the dataset. In the case of manual editing, the bounding polygon should be as tight as possible, so as to delimit the resource described as accurately as possible (do not give a rectangle covering the whole of France for data limited to one commune). Ideally, the boundary polygon should only cover contiguous areas, and should be multiple in the case of scattered territories. If several rights-of-way are indicated, they must not overlap. |
Example | |
INSPIRE requirement | Mandatory |
Batch editing | Yes, by crushing |
Scan | Yes, convex envelope |
Search engine | No |
Resource sheet | No |
Service sheet | Yes |
Tip
If the convex envelope is not automatically recognized by the scan, consult the appendix on this subject.
Manual entry of a geographical area¶
To manually draw the data area on the map :
- Click on "Modify";
- Draw the right-of-way on the map;
- Finish your entry by double-clicking on the map or by clicking again on the first vertex of the polygon;
- Save.
Number of entities ¶
Definition | Number of geographic objects |
---|---|
Indications | Must be an integer. |
Example | 20 |
INSPIRE requirement | Optional |

Coordinate systems ¶
Definition | Name and EPSG code of the geographic or projected coordinate system |
---|---|
Indications | If the system has not been automatically recognized, choose a value from the available list, which can be customized by the administrator (see dedicated chapter) |
Example | EPSG code: 2154 Name: RGF93 / Lambert-93 |
INSPIRE requirement | Mandatory |
Batch editing | Yes, by crushing |
Scan | Yes |

NB
If the coordinate system is not automatically recognized by the scan, please consult the relevant appendix.
Scale ¶
Definition | Geographical precision of the resource (mainly used for vector data), otherwise it is the optimum scale for using the data |
---|---|
Indications | Digital |
Example | 10000 |
INSPIRE requirement | Mandatory if resolution not specified |
Batch editing | Yes, by crushing |

INSPIRE requirement | Mandatory if scale not specified |
Batch editing | Yes, by crushing |
Scan | No |
Search engine | No |
Resource sheet | No |
Service sheet | No |
Geographical context¶
Definition | Description of why the tabular data can be considered geographical |
---|---|
Indications | The table contains latitude and longitude values, contains a field that can be linked to a geographic table, etc... |
Example | This data is an INSEE indicator which, combined with the IRIS geographic layer via the INSEE code, enables us to map the unemployment rate per inhabitant. |
