Navigating your inventory

The best way to navigate the data inventory is the search engine, based on free search and dynamic contextual filters.

When the user enters a free search ( contains field), the engine searches the following fields:

  • Title;
  • Table or file name (without extension) ;
  • Summary;
  • Resource location or service URL ;
  • Keywords;
  • INSPIRE themes ;
  • Working group themes.

Relevance

The engine calculates a relevance score that impacts the default display order of results. This is highlighted by a slight yellow highlighting of the search in the results.

Relevance
Highlighting of search words in results display

Relevance is defined as the number of times a word in the text search appears exactly in the relevant fields. Sorting by relevance is a sort based on this value, calculated for each search on each metadata returned. In the event of a tie, the metadata is sorted according to the last modification date of the metadata records (stable order).

The relevance score is the sum of the weighted relevance of each field:

Metadata field Weighting
Title 100%
Keywords 100%
Technical name 80%
Summary 50%
Location 50%

Special characters and case

It's important to keep certain characteristics in mind when using text search:

  • the engine is case insensitive, so 'ABC' is equivalent to 'abc';
  • it does not take into account characters with accents, so 'àéù' is equivalent to 'aeu' ;
  • it doesn't take into account certain special characters, in particular square brackets, parentheses or slashes.

Following the logic of the main search systems, Isogeo encourages users to adopt the "funnel" approach.

  2. Apply filters: the drop-down menu to the right of the search bar displays the filters available according to the search results:

  3. Set display with [sorting and pagination] options(../.../settings/inventory.md#linterface) :

Auto-completion

When typed in the search bar, auto-completion proposes the 3 closest filter values, taking into account the title and identifier.

Detailed operation

  • by navigating up and down on the proposed tags, the selected value is dynamically displayed (by replacing) in the search field;
  • by clicking on one of the proposals, the selected value is added to the search;
  • by pressing the Enter key, the search is launched with the values already added;
  • by pressing the Space key, autocomplete restarts from zero, allowing the user to add several tags as he goes along.
