Enhance data in any software interface thanks to the API¶
The Isogeo platform relies on the power of its API to develop applications tailored to every need, using metadata as an intelligent abstraction layer to connect services to data assets.
The principles¶
Respecting REST architecture, the public API enables metadata sheets to be searched and read in any language or tool, but requires a connection key for authentication. Please note that a third-party application can only be developed by Isogeo or one of its partners, so please contact us if you need a specific development.
Examples of API-based applications¶
The API can be used in as many applications as there are developers to make them. Here are a few examples of applications developed today and available as extensions to the platform.
Plugins for GIS¶
One of the most popular uses is to be able to consult catalogs directly in GIS software. Today, plug-ins have been developed for :
Data portals¶
WhileOpenCatalog covers most consultation needs, it is also possible to develop data access portals. Whether internal or public, the aim is not simply to make a catalog available for consultation, but to implement functionalities dedicated to animating data assets:
- monitoring of data modifications by e-mail subscription, customizable by each user (favorites lists);
- data comments and rating ;
- interoperability with internal directories (Active Directory, LDAP, etc.) ;
- dynamic flows around heritage life ;
- cartographic search and consultation interface ;
- cMS-style administration interface (WordPress model) for advanced configuration and editorial content management;
- responsive interfaces ;
- features that everyone can help develop! :)
Tip
Consult the portal documentation.
Generic or specific¶
Depending on your project and requirements, you can plan to set up a portal with a generic base, or a complete specific development.

More interesting achievements¶
Here is a selection of portals using the Isogeo API to provide interaction functionalities via the catalog:
- Geographic data infrastructure of the Hauts de Seine department;
- Syndicat Mixte d'Aménagement de la Vallée de la Durance (SMAVD);
- Lorient Agglomération.
Others exist but are reserved for intranet access (e.g. GRDF, ADP, CD 64)
