Portal overview

The portal has 2 interfaces:

  • the one visible to users, whether authenticated or not: this is the user interface or front-office. It is often located on a URL such as http://portail_data.domaine.com.
  • the one accessible only to administrators: this is the administration interface or back-office. It is systematically located at http://portail_data.domaine.com/admin.

This guide focuses on the latter, although the former is used to illustrate the consequences of configuration.

Reconciling data management and web design

In Isogeo's vision, cataloguing is only an intermediary step towards the distribution and enhancement of data. Making metadata is not an end in itself, and data catalogs are all too often interfaces dedicated to technicians and far from respecting the rules of ergonomics.

This is why the portal combines Isogeo's expertise in data governance and enhancement, the power of the platform to serve metadata via its API, and the know-how of a web design and development agency: PixUp.

Use-oriented portals within everyone's reach

The aim is not simply to make a catalog available for consultation, but to implement functionalities dedicated to the animation of data assets: feedback, comments, modification tracking, user accounts, news, GIS enhancement, etc.

What's more, you can take advantage of the Isogeo API to create a portal according to user profile. For example, if you wish to distribute certain data only internally and not externally, it's very easy to do so from the administration.

You can also choose what content is displayed according to user profiles (internal or public, for example) by setting up groups.

Easy access for all
Data is consumed and produced by different types of people - Access must be easy for everyone

Supporting your distribution strategy

Isogeo search engine

The portal naturally incorporates all the power of the Isogeo search engine: dynamic filters, results sorting options, pagination, etc., all in a clear interface close to the tools used on a daily basis.

Since version 3.0, the portal can also integrate the catalog of the Dawizz global data cataloging application. When this is the case, the Dawizz API is used for the search engine and the presentation of Dawizz records, but the Isogeo API is still used for the presentation of geographic data metadata records.

The search bar allows you to search both within the data and across all site elements (widgets, news, pages...).

Dynamic and static content management

The portal is not just about data. In fact, the portal integrates a CMS(Content Management System ) and thus allows the editing of editorial content, such as :

All this content can be displayed or hidden according to user profiles (internal or public, for example) by setting up groups.

Example of home page widgets

A participatory dimension to bring intangible heritage to life

A space and options are dedicated to authenticated users: access reserved pages or additional details on metadata sheets, access participative features, create customized data lists...

An optimized work tool thanks to notifications: a user can choose to subscribe to certain data (via lists) every week (customizable period) and receive an e-mail report indicating which data has been modified in the meantime, without any intervention on the part of the administrator.
